Joy

Joy

Joy and happy are very different. Happy is almost temporary in nature; joy is deep down in your soul even when things around you aren't exactly happy.

Joy comes with a deep seated content attached to it. It isn't grasping. It isn't always wanting, wanting more. It's settled. With joy, comes dreams and vision and a hopefulness surrounding the whole thing, yet very in love and resolved with where you are.

How do we get to a place of joy rather than happy (although happiness isn't unacceptable and bad)? I believe it's the search we are on. If our journey and focus is the pursuance of momentary fulfillment, we'll bounce from experience to experience, purchase to purchase trying to keep the happy scale up. But it's draining and fruitless.

If, instead, we seek the profound and rooted pleasures, then we stop bouncing and can rest right where we are. These satisfactions look more like cultivating relationships, developing your craft, loving yourself, connecting with your spirituality. Instead, take that journey that brings joy.

And the beautiful thing about joy is that my joy will always look different than yours. Joy is unique and powerful. Many of us can experience happiness by buying the same popular product, but we can't all walk the same road that will bring us joy. That takes time, tender care, and sweet attention.

May you pursue joy today and every day.
